Adrianna Liedel sentenced 1 to 3 years in prison for causing a fatal crash last year in Ballston Spa that killed Harold M. Townsend and injured his wife
BALLSTON SPA — A Milton woman was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison for causing a crash while impaired by cannabis that killed a man and gravely injured his wife, according to the Saratoga County District Attorney.
Adrianne Liedel, 21, was sentenced Friday in county court. She pleaded guilty to a charge of vehicular homicide on Nov. 22.
Liedel was driving on March 15 when her car struck a married couple near their Hop City Road home in Ballston Spa, according to prosecutors.Â
Harold M. Townsend, 72, was killed and his wife, Janet L. Townsend, 71, was flown to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries. Townsend’s obituary at Armer Funeral Home says he was an Army veteran, a senior sales representative with Pepsi and an avid woodworker.Â
A grand jury indictment charged Liedel with the felonies of second-degree vehicular manslaughter and first-degree and second-degree vehicular assault. She is also charged with misdemeanors of driving while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree assault, and the violation of failure to use due care to avoid a bicyclist, pedestrian or domestic animal.
