MOHAWK — State officials Tuesday used the opening of a new solar farm here to highlight the number of new green energy plants that have opened across upstate in recent months.
The 20 megawatt Grissom Solar project is located on about 100 acres. It was developed and constructed by CS Energy and is owned by MN8 Energy with tax equity financing from M&T Community & Environmental Development LLC, a subsidiary of M&T Bank Corporation. The Montgomery County project represents $28 million in private investment.
Other recent facilities include the 20 megawatt Janis Solar in Willet, Cortland County, developed and constructed by CS Energy and owned by MN8 Energy. Additionally, Regan Solar in the town of Mohawk is a 20 MW solar facility developed and constructed by CS Energy and owned by MN8 Energy.
In northern New York, Chasm Falls Hydro, a 1.6 megawatt hydroelectric plant in Chateauguay, Franklin County, was returned to service by Ampersand Hydro in November. And in Lowville and Harrisburg, Lewis County, a 103.9 megawatt wind facility developed by Invenergy was completed on April 14.
In the Southern Tier, Baron Winds, in Cohocton, Dansville and Wayland, Steuben County, is a 121.8 megawatt wind facility developed by RWE and completed on Feb. 7.
Eight Point Wind in Greenwood and West Union, Steuben County, is a 111.2 megawatt wind plant built by NextEra Energy and completed February 8. Puckett Solar in Greene, Chenango County, was finished in October. That 20 megawatt solar facility was developed and constructed by CS Energy and is owned by MN8 Energy. These projects were green-lighted by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority in 2016 and 2017.
