- Motor Oil Coffee, founded two years ago by a pair of Albany marketing and PR executives, recently opened its second permanently operating cafe, located at 136 State St. in Albany, previously home to the Capitol Melts sandwich shop. A grand opening and ribbon cutting with elected and business officials will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5. It currently serves coffee, tea, soft drinks, baked goods and light fare, with breakfast and lunch options expanding next week. Hours: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, closed on weekends. The company’s first cafe opened in November at 1671 Union St., Schenectady. Its flagship is being developed at for Slip 12, the multi-use former Huck Finn’s property in Albany’s warehouse district, with Motor Oil’s owners scheduled to discuss those plans at the grand opening on State Street. It previously had a tasting station inside the 518 Craft bar and bottle shop in Troy.
- Allie B’s Cozy Kitchen in Albany, celebrating its ninth anniversary this week, is developing a second location, to be called Allie B’s Mac & Cheese, at 347 S. Pearl St., in the city’s South End. The storefront space appears to have variously been a copy shop and community-based training center.
