NORTH GREENBUSH – The New York Army National Guard’s 1,200 vehicles in the Capital Region will be serviced at a new state-of-the art maintenance facility being built at the 42nd Infantry Division headquarters at the Glenmore Road Armory.
The budgeted $17 million project is the largest construction project for the Army National Guard in upstate New York since the new Queensbury Armory was built about a decade ago. The bids came in at $16 million for the project.
Maj. Gen. Ray Shields, the state adjutant general and commander of the state Army National Guard, said Friday the new facility will provide the top level of “readiness for our soldiers” for the 17 units in the Capital Region.
The Field Maintenance Shop 17 will be an 18,808-square foot masonry foot masonry and insulated panel building. It will include 10,923 square feet of maintenance space and 7,885 square feet of administrative and support space.

Shields said the upgraded maintenance facility will allow units to be prepared for active-duty assignments as well as dealing with call-ups to help out during emergencies in the state.
The state Army National Guard has 10,800 members of whom 2,800 are deployed, said Shields. “It’s the largest deployment since 2012,” said the adjutant general.
Jeanette Moy, commissioner of the state Office of General Services, said working with Shields and the state Division…
