SARATOGA SPRINGS – Construction is beginning this week for a new Saratoga skate park at the East Side Recreation facility.
According to the city recreation and public works departments and On Deck Saratoga, the fully concrete, modern park, which has been in development for more than 10 years, is designed for the region’s eager wheeled sports enthusiasts.
“The need for professional, modern skateparks has never been greater, and Saratoga is proud to commit to the needs of the local skating community,” city officials said in a statement.
Saratoga’s skatepark was built in 1989 and is the oldest skatepark in the state, according to the city.
Originally built of wood, it has undergone several changes and upgrades over the years, and the metal ramps and concrete bowl now there have been in place for about 20 years.
The new skatepark design features obstacles for all ability levels and by being made of concrete will provide a smooth, quiet and fast riding surface.
The skatepark will be closed for the rest of the spring and summer while construction is under way, with plans for the new park to be ready by
early fall. See ondecksaratoga.org for more details.
