ALBANY – University at Albany women’s lacrosse junior Katie Pascale had a record-setting afternoon and the Great Danes never gave New Hampshire a chance to think about an upset in a 20-10 rout in Friday’s America East Conference semifinal at John Fallon Field.
Pascale had seven goals and five assists for 12 points, which broke the program and tournament single-game record for points. She also became UAlbany’s career assists leader with 104.
Senior midfielder Sarah Falk added six goals for top-seeded UAlbany (11-6), which advances to the 10 a.m. Sunday championship game against Binghamton, which beat defending champion Vermont in the other semifinal.
“I think my teammates just really make me look good all over the field by getting through, causing turnovers, Sarah finishing,” Pascale said. “Those five assists don’t really count unless they finish them off ball. So just giving them all the credit. I wouldn’t be able to do all that stuff without them.”
Pascale’s seven goals tied the tournament single-game record.
“We’re just trying to win an America East championship, so we’re just putting our heads down for the next game,” she said. “It’s a cool stat, but we’re ready for the next game.”
They were certainly prepared for Friday’s rematch against No. 4 UNH (5-10), which lost 16-11 at UAlbany two weeks earlier.
Just like that earlier contest, UAlbany jumped to an 8-1 lead in the second quarter on Friday. Unlike the April 22 game, when the Wildcats climbed within three goals, the Great Danes never let them threaten.
“They’re a great team and any team we face is going to be a really good opponent and give us a hard time,” Falk said. “But I mean, I think we did a great job still going hard, not letting up.
