The Newfoundland Rogues have had an interesting trip around North America in their first season in The Basketball League.
It’s a journey the Albany Patroons hope to end Monday night in Washington Avenue Armory.

The Patroons and Rogues meet again at 7 p.m. in Game 2 of the best-of-3 East Conference finals. Albany took a 1-0 lead on Friday with a convincing 134-108 victory in Game 1 in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
“We’ve got a lot of guys with character and we know what the ultimate goal is,” Patroons head coach Derrick Rowland said. “Our goal is not just to win a game in Newfoundland. It’s to win this series and win the next two.”
The Patroons (24-4) were scheduled to fly back Sunday to Albany after their return flight on Saturday was canceled.
Meanwhile, the Rogues (26-18) left their island home to make their first trip to Albany. They’ve already played in North Carolina and Georgia in the postseason. Their regular season included games in Oregon, Washington, Indiana and Kentucky.
Unlike the Patroons, who drove to every road game until Friday, travel is more complicated for the Rogues.
“Oh, man, it’s always something,” Newfoundland head coach Jerry Williams said. “That’s the easiest way I can say it – always something. Just getting on and off the island is not an easy task for anybody involved. It’s a beautiful place, that’s what I can say, but it’s always something. Because there’s two ways – the boat or air.”
The Rogues moved from the American Basketball Association to the TBL this season. They’re already committed to joining the Basketball Super League next season.
