RENSSELAER – City police said first responders performed life-saving measures on an unresponsive three-year-old girl at a Broadway home Friday, with further measures taken at Albany Medical Center Hospital, but she did not survive.

Further information regarding the child’s death is still under investigation, police said Saturday, adding that the girl’s parents are cooperating with the investigation.

As officers were at the scene, a city man allegedly tried to gain access to the crime scene and hinder police operations. He was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and criminal mischief, police said.

After being interviewed by Rensselaer and State Police at city police headquarters and upon further investigation, he was also charged with aggravated sexual abuse, assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a police statement. He was arraigned and sent to the Rensselaer County jail without bail. The details of those charges were not made available.
