ROTTERDAM – Fire and utility officials are on the scene near Rensselaer and Altamont avenues after a succession of falling power poles Tuesday afternoon is causing safety concerns.
At about 3:10 p.m., the Rotterdam Police Department responded to the scene after a National Grid electric pole appeared to be damaged.
Shortly after arriving, the electrical pole broke and fell, causing several other poles to fall in the area of Altamont Avenue.
National Grid and Rotterdam Fire District 2 are present to combat fires and any electrical safety concerns but Altamont Avenue between Crane Street and Amsterdam Avenue is expected to be closed for several hours. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid this area, police said.
