SCHENECTADY – Police say they suspect a death Friday is the seventh fatal overdose in six days in the city.
Police and firefighters responded to the undisclosed scene of the incident and though it needs to be confirmed through toxicology, the initial investigation indicates that an overdose is likely.
The department’s Special Investigations Unit is actively investigating the incidents and harm reduction-focused outreach personnel from differing agencies were deployed Friday throughout the city.
The epidemic has claimed several other Capital Region lives this year. In May Rensselaer County reported possibly five fatalities, as well as 12 non-fatal overdoses, that involved cocaine and fentanyl in one weekend.
