Religious leaders and activists call on major banks to stop financing fossil fuel industry

ALBANY — Religious leaders and climate activists marched through downtown Albany on Tuesday, March 21, to call on major banks to stop financing the expansion of the fossil fuel industry.
The Albany march, which targeted Chase Bank, Wells Fargo and Bank of America, was part of a national day of action organized by TH!RD ACT, a group of senior-aged climate activists.
“We’re mobilizing people 60 and older to say to major Wall Street banks that if they don’t stop funding fossil fuel projects, we are going to take our money out of their banks and we’re going to go to regional community banks instead,” said Michael Richardson, co-founder of Rivers & Mountains GreenFaith Circle, a multi-faith movement for climate justice.
