ALBANY – Spectrum, the region’s major cable TV provider, awarded the Playhouse Stage Co. $10,000 last Thursday at the theater company’s 35th anniversary gala in Washington Park.
The money came from a Spectrum corporate philanthropic program it runs in partnership with Ovation TV called the Stand for the Arts Awards. The program has awarded $600,000 in grants for arts education programs since 2017.
The gala was held at the Park Playhouse, the Albany summer home of the Playhouse Stage Company, which is based in Cohoes and manages the Cohoes Music Hall. The theater company got its start in Albany in 1989 offering free public theater to the masses.
“Making the arts accessible to all Capital Region residents and guests, without exception, is at the heart of what Playhouse Stage Company does,” Owen Smith, producing artistic director of the Playhouse Stage Company said in a statement. “Our free, outdoor productions at Albany’s Park Playhouse allow tens of thousands of guests to enjoy a live performing arts event each summer, bringing our diverse community together to experience the magic of theatre.”
Shows in Washington Park began the night of the gala, June 29.
“Our partnership with Ovation TV will enable these organizations to continue to serve as vital arts and cultural resources in their communities – which complements our focus on investing in and strengthening the towns and cities we serve,” said Adam Falk, senior vice president of state government affairs for Charter Communications, the parent company of Spectrum.
