Carly Wise enjoys scoring goals. The Saratoga Springs junior star, who will continue her lacrosse career at Clemson University, is even more pleased that when she scores, she produces help that accounts for victories.
Last week, the Blue Streaks won twice in three outings. Wise delivered a superlative showing in a 13-10 win against Shaker when she tallied nine goals and added two assists.
“We were going in looking for revenge. Last year when we played them, we lost in overtime,” Wise said. “Coming in, we felt this was our game and this is our year. We’ve grown so much throughout the season. We felt we could do this and we’re at full steam. The chemistry has grown a lot.”
For her efforts, Wise has been selected as the Times Union’s Girls’ Athlete of the Week for May 1-7.
Tuesday night, Wise tallied four goals in an 11-10 overtime loss at Shenendehowa to elevate her career goal total to 202.
Last year, the Blue Streaks endured a tumultuous regular-season campaign before rebounding to stun top-seeded Bethlehem in the Section II Class A semifinals. Saratoga Springs dropped a 12-8 decision against Shenendehowa in the final. The Plainsmen beat the Blue Streaks three times last year.
Despite the overtime loss to Shen on Tuesday, Wise is encouraged with how the Blue Streaks are performing under first-year coach Jennifer Furze.Â
“We have a fresh everything with a new coaching staff,” Wise said. “Everything has come together well. The coaches have helped us with every aspect of the game. … We are all feeling really confident for sectionals. I want to win so bad.”
Monday, the Blue Streaks defeated Queensbury 15-11 – a squad that beat both Bethlehem and Shenendehowa earlier this season – and Wise led the way with eight goals.
