Three straight days of competition resulted in three straight days of superlative results turned in by Guilderland junior sprinter Kendall Barnhart.
First, she teamed with Megan Swan, Saida Assabahi and Addison Vellekoop to capture the sprint medley relay title at the Loucks Games in White Plains with the nation’s top time this spring of 3 minutes, 55.95 seconds.
The next day at the Shenendehowa Invitational, Barnhart topped the field and set a new meet record in winning the 200-meter run in 25.15.
Saturday, Barnhart established a new school and meet record in the 400 with a time of 56.90 at the Queensbury Invitational.
For her efforts, Barnhart has been selected as the Times Union’s Girls’ Athlete of the Week for May 8-14.
When asked which of her record-breaking performances from last week she was most pleased with, Barnhart quickly responded, “Definitely I would have to say the sprint medley at the Loucks Games. We all just had a tremendous race. It was an amazing experience seeing everyone do their thing.”
Following Thursday’s impressive showing at the Loucks Games, Guilderland easily won the team title at the Shen Invitational with 141 points. In addition to winning the 200, Barnhart also took part in the winning 400 relay effort with Swan, Assabahi and Tatum Cramer.
“Friday, I felt pretty good,” Barnhart said. “It was a lot warmer and it was very nice to run in. On Saturday, it got a little windy. I definitely had to work and push through the wind.”
Barnhart ran an extremely fast final 200 to break the school and meet record in the 400 at the Queensbury Invitational.
