TROY – City police arrested the driver of a vehicle reported stolen from Colonie early Tuesday morning after he sped away when officers tried to stop him, police said.
At about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the stolen vehicle was seen by an officer on Seventh Avenue in North Troy and followed until another officer could respond. Both “initiated a traffic stop using their emergency lights and siren in the area of 7th Avenue and Douw Street,” police said.
The vehicle fled west on Douw Street toward River Street in North Central when it collided with a vehicle at Douw and River streets, police said. The second vehicle then collided with a third vehicle.
The driver of the first vehicle ran but by was captured nearby by officers.
A woman who was a front-seat passenger in one of the two other vehicles, suffered a head injury, which officers said likely came from striking the windshield. She was treated by the Troy Fire Department and taken to a hospital where she is in stable condition with a non-life-threatening injury, police said.
The woman was in a “soft-top convertible with the windows down at the time of the crash, we believe she may not have been wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and fell alongside the vehicle she occupied,” Assistant Chief Steven Barker said.
