Two ValleyCats selected for Frontier League All-Star Game

Tri-City ValleyCats second baseman Cito Culver and closer Reymin Guduan were named to the East roster for the Frontier League All-Star teamsย that were announced Monday.

The 30th Frontier League All-Star Game will be played July 12 at Ozinga Field in Crestwood, Ill., the home of the Windy City Thunderbolts.

Culver, in his second season with the ValleyCats, is batting .294 with six homers and 27 RBI. He’s fifth in the league with 37 walks.

Culver, 30, began the season at shortstop before moving to second baseย because of a sore shoulder.

He’s in his fifth season in the Frontier League, the first three with the Sussex County Miners, after playing nine seasons of affiliated ball in the Yankees and Marlins systems. He was a Yankees first-round draft pick in 2010.

Guduan, in his first year with Tri-City, has five saves and a 2.38 earned-run average in 19 appearances.. The lefthander has struck out 42 batters in 22. 2/3 innings.

Guduan, 31,ย has pitched in 43 major-league games for the Astros and Athletics.

The ValleyCats would have had at least one more All-Star if outfielder Carson McCusker hadn’t signed with the Minnesota Twins last week. He is still leading the league with a .433 average and had 17 homers and 51 RBI.

McCusker made his affiliated debut Saturday with the Fortย Myers Mighty Mussels, Minnesota’s Class A affiliate. He hit his first homer for them on Sunday against Lakeland.

The ValleyCats are 27-18, one game out of first in the East Division, entering a home series with the Empire State Greys that begins Tuesday.
