Tyler Figueroa is a senior shortstop with the Colonie baseball team.
A three-year varsity standout, Figueroa is set to continue his playing career at Siena College.
Q: How are you feeling so far with how things are going this season?
A: I feel good about everything that is going on. We hit a little bit of a rough patch lately. I definitely think we will be able to overcome it. As a team, we’re pretty tight. We realize these losses mean a lot, so I think it will encourage us to do better and work harder.
Q: We saw how things unfolded during the 2022 Section II Class AA playoffs with the top three seeds all losing their first game. Honestly, it looks like things are just as wide open with teams taking turns beating each other. At this point, is it just getting into the field – no matter the seed – and seeing what happens?Â
A: Yeah, 100 percent. Everyone is beating each other. There is really good competition this year. Everybody has a shot. I don’t think there is any big long shot. Every game is a battle. We have to go out there and do our best.Â
Q: The team last year had some strong senior leaders. With them graduating, have you taken on more of a leadership role?
A: With my experience on varsity, I had to step up a little more, especially with all those guys from last year leaving. I definitely took more of a leadership role and tried to use my experience and what I know to try to help those guys around me.
Q: What has it been like having your brother Nate on the team this season?
A: It is awesome. It is an experience I have been waiting for for a long time. There is nothing like it. We train together and, obviously, we spend a lot of time together. To actually get on the field and spend time together is special.
