The University at Albany men’s lacrosse team didn’t score for the opening 24 minutes on Saturday and lost to Vermont for the eighth straight time.
Brock Haley had six goals to lead the Catamounts to a 14-7 victory over the Great Danes in an America East match at Virtue Field in Burlington, Vt.
Vermont built a 5-0 lead before UAlbany senior attack Jack Pucci finally broke the ice with 5:33 left in the second quarter.
“Definitely disappointed in our overall energy of the entire team,” UAlbany coach Scott Marr said. “For some reason, just didn’t have it. Just wasn’t there. It’s hard to explain why we’re not excited and energetic to play a team that’s beaten us quite a few times in a row.”
The Great Danes (2-5 overall, 1-1 America East) trailed 6-2 at halftime. Two-time defending champion Vermont (4-4, 2-0) opened the second half by scoring three straight goals to maintain a comfortable lead.
UAlbany’s Silas Richmond and Graydon Hogg scored two goals each. Jack VanValkenburgh made 11 saves. Vermont’s Tommy Burke won 18 of 23 faceoffs.
The Great Danes return to action against Maryland-Baltimore County at 3 p.m. next Saturday at Casey Stadium.
“It’s a huge game,” Marr said. “We’ve got to at least keep ourselves in the hunt for the home field (in the league tournament).”
