Zach Remillard was called up to the Chicago White Sox roster Thursday. He finally got his chance to play Saturday against the Seattle Mariners when Tim Anderson suffered an injury during the game. The La Salle graduate certainly made the most of his chance to play. In fact, he is the reason why the White Sox prevailed 4-3 in 11 innings.
Remillard, the 2012 Times Union Large School Player of the Year, finished the game 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. He forced extra innings with an RBI single to left to plate Elvis Andrus in the ninth. He drove in the winning run with another RBI single, this time to center, to score Andrus again.
The 29-year-old, who starred in college at Coastal Carolina, walked in his first at bat in the fifth and reached first again with a bunt single in the seventh.
Remillard, who was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 38th round but decided to play with his older brother Will Remillard at Coastal Carolina, was named the Big 10’s Most Valuable Player playing for La Salle in 2012.
As a college senior, Remillard helped lead Coast Carolina to the 2016 NCAA National Championship when the Chanticleers defeated Arizona 4-3.
Prior to being summoned by the White Sox after third baseman Yoan Moncada was placed on the injured list, Remillard was hitting .236 with five home runs, 25 RBIs and 13 stolen bases for the Triple A Charlotte Knights.
