2024 Treasure Hunt: The search for the medallion starts soon

Attention all treasure seekers: It’s almost time for the Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard Treasure Hunt. Now in its 37th year, this annual event awards one lucky winner a grand prize of $2,000 to whoever solves the clues and finds the treasure hunt medallion hidden somewhere in Onondaga County.

Starting Thursday, Feb. 15, readers of The Post-Standard and Syracuse.com will find daily clues published online and in the newspaper about the medallion’s whereabouts. Clues give subtle hints, often through rhyme, on the precise location of the medallion – a 1.5-inch plastic disc.

Last year’s medallion winners, Joe Ori and Angela Wright and their daughters Sage and Ember, from Manlius, found the medallion at Mill Run Park in Manlius after solving the clues from Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard.

“I saw a little bit of the plastic [from the medallion] so I reached in there and pulled it out,” said Sage, then 11 years old and a 6th grader at Eagle Hill Middle School, to Syracuse.com reporter Darian Stevenson. She joined a long list of winners over the years, who, armed with positive thoughts and several hints, braved the elements to find a small token representing a large reward.

This year’s treasure hunt is sponsored by This is CNY, a new campaign sharing the good news in Central New York and showcasing our community as a great place to live, work and play. For more information on this year’s event, visit syracuse.com/treasure-hunt.
