Syracuse, N.Y. — 210 Teas owner Kahssia Hills will temporarily close her weekend tea shop for an unknown amount of time.
In addition to running the downtown tea shop at 108 E. Washington St. on Saturdays and Sundays, Hills works full-time as a tech analyst and is eight months pregnant. She will pause her business to focus on her family.
“Long story short, I need a break so I’m taking one,” Hills wrote in a statement. “I was not failed by my community, it’s not a matter of finances, it wasn’t due to lack of support… I simply deserve rest at this time in my life and I’m claiming it.”
Hills will continue to fulfill online and retail/wholesale orders, appear at local markets, and rent out the tea shop space for various events.
She plans to reopen the tea shop later in 2023, but there is no exact date set.
210 Teas will be open for its final days this summer on July 8 and 9 from 12-6 p.m.
“I know this news is sad – I’m emotional about it too,” Hills wrote. “But it’s not forever, just for now.”
Hills opened 210 Teas on East Washington Street in February 2022. Her grandmother Catherine sparked her love for tea at a young age, and the number 210 represents Catherine’s home address, where Hills grew up.
She developed an early following by selling teas at pop-up shops and local festivals around Syracuse.
Since it opened, 210 Teas hosted regular community events, birthday parties, crochet club gatherings, poetry readings and open mic nights.
The retail space was formerly occupied by Roji Tea House. Christian Van Luven and his late wife Tomomi Yoshida opened Roji in 2004 and featured tea and desserts. Roji reduced its hours during the pandemic, then closed a few months later.
