Adirondacks named a ‘favorite’ destination for Thanksgiving getaways

Craving a Thanksgiving getaway? One of the best-rated places for a turkey day trip is in mountainous Upstate New York.

The Adirondacks have been named a “favorite” 2023 Thanksgiving getaway by HGTV. The sprawling, region made the list of 21 great break spots alongside Costa Rica and coastal Louisiana.

HGTV included the vast Adirondacks on its ranking for offering adventurous visitors “countless things to see and do”. That includes over 6 million acres worth of wilderness in the Adirondack Park for outdoor enthusiasts and photographers to explore, HGTV wrote, and history-filled places like Lake Placid to visit.

“Save time to shop for crafts in delightful villages, ride your motorcycle on rural roads or ride the Adirondack Scenic Railroad,” HGTV wrote.

Being away from home for the holidays doesn’t mean travelers have to miss out on a turkey dinner.

With Thanksgiving less than two months away, a few eateries are starting to accept dinner reservations. The Garnet Hill Lodge in North River is offering a buffet-style Thanksgiving feast while the celebrated Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid is set to serve up a buffet in its AAA Four Diamond eatery, The View Restaurant.
