The Buffalo Bills officially promoted Bobby Babich to defensive coordinator on Tuesday afternoon.
Babich, 40, joined the Bills in 2017 as the assistant defensive backs coach. He was promoted to safeties coach the following season and served in that role from 2018 to 2021. In 2022, Babich was named Buffalo’s linebackers coach, a role he’s served for two seasons. During his time in Buffalo, Babich’s players have performed well. Micah Hyde earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2017 and was a second-team All-Pro in 2017 and 2021 while Jordan Poyer earned a first-team All-Pro nod under Babich in 2021. Last season, Matt Milano earned first-team All-Pro honors and was named to the Pro Bowl.
Just a few hours after the news was made official, some Bills players reacted to Babich’s promotion on social media.
Tyrel Dodson called Babich the best coach he’s ever had.
“If I wanted to say everything I have about Bobby, I would run out of space,” Dodson wrote on Twitter. ” Best coach I’ve ever had hands down. Believed in me before everyone else did. Rose the bar for myself. I’m not surprised one bit. You not only earned this, but much deserved!! Love!!!”
Dodson, coming off of his best season as a pro under Babich, sounds like he could be swayed to re-sign in Buffalo based on the move.
Defensive tackles Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones also reacted to the news. Oliver, in an Instagram story, wrote, “Ohhhhh s–t” while Jones stated that the promotion was “well deserved.”
