LONDON — Sean McDermott went to the podium following the Buffalo Bills’ 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and used three words to describe the injury outlook of linebacker Matt Milano and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones after each left the game early in Sunday’s matchup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Not looking good.
“Injury update for you,” McDermott told the media after giving credit to the Jaguars. “Matt Milano, it’s a knee, a lower leg injury. I know it’s not looking good right now, but I don’t know any details beyond that at this point. And then DaQuan Jones. It’s a pec injury and also not looking good at this point. I’ll know more in a little bit here.”
The injuries can only be described as devastating.
Matt Milano is the heart and soul of the Bills’ defense. His knowledge of Sean McDermott’s system and his athleticism on the field have made him a key figure in the success of the team’s defense throughout Sean McDermott’s tenure as head coach. McDermott referred to the injuries as a setback for the defense.
“It was a setback for us,” McDermott said. “We were confident in Dorian (Williams) who went out there and T. Dod (Tyrel Dodson) who was out there as well. I applaud those guys, T. Dod and Dorian going out there, not getting a lot of reps during the week, but going out there and having to perform.”
McDermott has confidence in the Bills’ next man up mentalist, but noted that Milano’s rapport with everyone on the field will be missed.
“That’s the rapport that he has with everybody else out there,” said McDermott. “T.B. and then the back seven together they’ve got a rapport that they’ve built up over the years, in particular this season so far. And so you lose that a little bit. But like I’ve said before we’re confident in those guys.”
As for Jones, the defensive tackle has arguably been the team’s defensive MVP through five games. He has helped Ed Oliver take his game to another level this season…
