Central NY woman charged with starting fire in four-apartment building, police say

Auburn, N.Y. — An Auburn woman who started a fire in a building she was previously a tenant in has been charged with arson, police said Tuesday.

Kira M. Monroe, 23, started the fire in the basement of 138 Cottage St. around 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 15, Auburn police said in a news release.

The apartment building was occupied with children and adults at the time of the fire, police said.

Monroe was charged with second-degree arson.
