‘Christmas Carol’ soars with acrobatic, circus-style theatrics at Syracuse Stage (review)

Despite the fact that Syracuse Stage has now presented Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” a total of nine times in its 50-year history, it still doesn’t seem like an overabundance. After all, that’s still fewer than one every five years.

Personally, I can’t think of a better choice of theater fare to rouse the spirit and usher in another holiday season. Nothing against some of the excellent “big shows” Stage has mounted for so many Decembers, but other than offering mostly light, upbeat “family fare,” did any of them have much to do with Christmas or even the holiday season?
