Lysander, NY – Kevin Rode, a Democrat who also ran on the Conservative Party line, ousted Republican Robert Wicks in the race for Lysander supervisor.
Rode got 3,100 votes to 2,538 for Wicks as of 11:45 p.m., according to unofficial results.
Rode is one of two Democrats to win Onondaga County supervisor seats now held by Republicans. The other was Chris Legg, a Democrat who won an open seat against Republican Michael Major. That seat is currently held by Janet Aaron, a Republican.
Overall, the county will have 14 Republican supervisors and four Democrats, according to tonightโs unofficial results.
In Lysander, Wicks, 67, has been supervisor for four years.
Rode, 47, has run for town supervisor twice before: once on an independent line in 2011 and again as a Democrat in 2019.
Rode campaigned, in part, on tamping down on large-scale industrial projects.
The town board has been working on its comprehensive plan. Debate arose about how much development would be allowed on industrial lots, Rode said. The Democrat said he wanted to keep that development limited to 30% of the lots; others sought to increase that to more than 50%, he said.
Rode works at Solvents & Petroleum Service. He was elected to the town board in 2021.
Wicks, a Republican, has been supervisor for four years. Before Tuesdayโs elections, he said he ran for re-election because he wants to continue on a waterfront revitalization project. One goal, he said, is creating a trail that would run from the town and village of Baldwinsville all the way to Onondaga Lake Park.
Hereโs what happened in other towns, according to unofficial results:
Skaneateles
Democrat Chris Legg beat Republican Michael Major for an open Skaneateles supervisor seat. Legg got 1,366 votes to 1,231 votes for Major.
Legg, 65, has been on the town board since 2020 and is a social studies teacher at Cayuga BOCES.
He said he wants to continue to work on the townโs ongoing plan to better monitor water in Skaneateles Lake. The town is also…
