Syracuse school board president Tamica Barnett has won her re-election. Her fellow Democratic candidates Ranette Releford, Gwendolyn Raeford and Mary Habib won the three remaining seats decided Tuesday night.
Barnett led the group with 11,332 votes. She was followed by Releford (10,417), Raeford (10,276), and Habib (10,100), according to according to Onondaga County Board of Elections unofficial results.
Republican candidate Magnolia Mumm came in fifth with 3,941 votes. The outstanding votes and absentee ballots would not be enough to change the outcome.
The Syracuse school district will soon have the first all-women board in its history with these results, according to district records.
Barnett is a lieutenant for the Syracuse Fire Department and owner of a barbeque catering business.
Raeford is a teacher at Hillside. She previously taught in the Syracuse School District for over two decades.
Releford is the administrator for the Citizens Review Board, the primary investigator of complaints filed against the Syracuse Police Department.
Habib is the director of fiscal services at OCM-BOCES. She previously worked as the director of budget at the Syracuse School District.
Board members make $15,918 annually, after voting to double their pay from $7,500 to the current amount in December 2022.
