Baldwinsville, N.Y. — Doug DeCarlo captured the 2023 SDGA District Match Play Championship on Sunday, defeating Tynan Jones in the final match at Radisson Greens Golf Course.
DeCarlo, who won this local major golf championship in 2021, was the top seed after firing a 2-under 70 in the qualifying round last week.
He won five matches for the week and was on top of his game during Sunday’s match against Jones.
DeCarlo posted a four-under 32 on the front nine to go five up. His lead swelled to six after a birdie on No. 10. Jones birdied Nos. 13 and 14, but the match ended after both players tied with the same score on No. 15.
He previously knocked out Robert Cuthill, Christopher Quilty, Damian George and Julian Galletta on his way to the championship.
The field consisted of 32 players after qualifying. One round of match play was played on Friday. Two rounds were contested Saturday, with the semifinals and finals held Sunday.
