Driver ran red light with child in car and collided with Syracuse patrol car, police say

Syracuse, N.Y. — A Syracuse police car crashed into a building Wednesday after colliding with a vehicle that ran a red light, police said.

Shortly before 3 p.m., the police car was driving west on Erie Blvd East when the other driver attempted to go through a red light, according to Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a Syracuse police spokesperson.

Linda Collins, 40, was driving a 2016 Honda north on Crouse Avenue. There was a 6-year-old child in the car, he said.

The vehicles collided at Erie Boulevard East and Crouse Avenue.

After the collision, the police car crashed into the entrance of The Art Store at 935 Erie Blvd E. The Honda was left immobilized in the middle of the intersection.

The officer in the car was taken to Upstate University Hospital for evaluation, but had no injuries, he said.

The police car was not on a call at the time, Malinowski said.

Collins was issued a ticket for running the red light, he said.
