Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse women’s basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack was named the ACC Coach of the Year on Tuesday and Orange star Dyaisha Fair was named All-ACC First Team.
Legette-Jack finished first with 293 points to lead the Coach of the Year voting. Virginia Tech’s Kenny Brooks finished with 214. North Carolina State’s Wes Moore earned 164.
Fair came in second among all players in the conference in points in the All-ACC voting with 1,463. The only player with more was Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley (Virginia Tech) who had 1,603.
Syracuse freshman Alyssa Latham was named to the All-Freshman team, finishing fifth in points among that group with 120. Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo was named All-ACC Rookie of the Year and had 412.
The All-ACC voting panel includes coaches from each team and 55 local and national media members. Each school can be represented by up to two media members. Those media members include both radio broadcasters and beat reporters. The votes of coaches are worth double in the voting.
The ACC Network’s ACC PM television show shared the moment when Legette-Jack was told she won the award during a phone call from ACC commissioner Jim Phillips.
“No way,” Legette-Jack said, leaning back in her chair. “This is so crazy. Oh my gosh. I’m so. … Oh my gosh. I’ve got a great staff, I’ve got a great team and I’ve got a great administration. I’m just a part of this thing. … I can’t thank you enough for this good news. My colleagues believe in what we’re doing as well and that means everything to me.”
After the phone call she was wrapped in a hug by assistant coaches Khyreed Carter and Kristen Sharkey.
Legette-Jack has the Orange headed to the NCAA Tournament in her second season leading the program, picking up the pieces after the program struggled for a year under an interim option following the departure of former coach Quentin Hillsman after accusations of bullying players and other inappropriate behavior.
