Syracuse, N.Y. ― Former Syracuse guard Symir Torrence will transfer to Binghamton University for his fifth and final year of college eligibility.
Torrence, a 6-foot-3 guard who spent the last two years at Syracuse University, made the announcement via his Instagram page on Sunday.
A native of Syracuse, Torrence attended the Syracuse Academy of Science before spending his final two years of high school at Vermont Academy. He played at Marquette as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to play at his hometown university.
This past season, Torrence averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 assists in just 11 minutes per game as the back-up to starting point guard Judah Mintz. As a junior with the Orange, Torrence averaged 1.6 assists and just 0.8 turnovers.
Torrence is a quality ball-handler and floor leader. For his entire four-year college career, Torrence has handed out 220 assists against just 93 turnovers.
Torrence has another year of eligibility after the NCAA granted all student-athletes an extra year due to the Covid-impacted 2020-21 season.
He will join a Binghamton team that went 13-18 last season, including an 8-8 mark in the America East Conference. The Bearcats are coached by Levell Sanders. The former Seton Hall guard will be entering his third season as Binghamton’s coach next year.
