High wind watch for Central NY for Wednesday and Thursday

The National Weather Service issued a high wind watch at 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday valid from Wednesday 2 p.m. until Thursday 7 a.m. for Oneida, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga and Madison counties.

“West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 58 mph possible,” explains the weather service. “Gusty south to southwest winds will develop ahead of a cold front Wednesday afternoon. The front may be accompanied by sudden stronger wind gusts, with winds shifting to the west in its wake. Winds will remain strong and gusty well into the night, as much colder air also quickly moves into the area.”

“Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” comments the weather service. “Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.”

Advance Local Weather Alerts is a service provided by United Robots, which uses machine learning to compile the latest data from the National Weather Service.
