This week was a busy one for families across Central New York, as kids returned to their classrooms. The start of the new school year also means fall sports for many students, and syracuse.com has the most complete coverage youโll find for all of Section III. โYou can use the search bar at the top right to find a school, team, or athlete. Once you find the team, youโll be able to click on stats, rosters, standings and, for many teams, we have 15 yearsโ worth of results. On the team roster, you can see view individual players and their statistics,โ said high school sports editor Hank Domin. โOur high school database is more robust that anything youโll see in the state. And if you want to see the latest news sorted by sport, just click on the โsportsโ dropdown on the high school homepage.โ
Hankโs team also hosts โmedia daysโ for each high school season and those events have grown exponentially over the past few years. This year, more than 1,500 athletes and coaches attended at Cicero-North Syracuse High School over three days, and even had a sponsor, Rainbow Lettering, a local company that specializes in custom apparel for athletic teams.
โJust a couple of years ago, media day consisted of football teams bringing players and a coach for interviews and photos. A few of reporters and a couple of photographers would show up. The growth of media days, and the inclusion of teams from every sport at every school, has been a game-changer for us. Itโs phenomenal to get the chance to interact with the athletes and their coaches before the season starts,โ said Hank.
โOur TikToks continue to be one of the most popular parts of media days. Hundreds of athletes lined up to dance and sing. We filmed 50 TikToks over the three days, and the kids had tons of fun performing.โ
