Internal investigation into Syracuse jail ‘altercation’ clears deputies, sheriff’s office says

Syracuse, N.Y. — An internal investigation has “exonerated” deputies who got into an altercation last month with a man who was incarcerated at the downtown Syracuse jail, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.

The “altercation” between three deputies and the man, Ozell Stanley III, at the Onondaga County Justice Center took place around 7 p.m. Jan. 21. It revolved around a plastic chair not permitted to be in Stanley’s cell, according to Thomas Newton, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
