Le Moyne women’s lacrosse falls to Niagara, 20-8

Niagara University, N.Y. – Lexi Braniecki registered seven points to lead Niagara University to a 20-8 victory over the Le Moyne College women’s lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon at Niagara Field.

Le Moyne opened the game’s scoring at the 12:53 mark as freshman midfielder Julia Blakeslee (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) tallied her second goal of the season.

The Purple Eagles responded with four straight goals and seven of the next eight. Jaclyn Crane started the run at the 11:37 mark with her second goal of the year. Rachel Crane followed with her sixth goal of the campaign 23 seconds later. Jaclyn Crane converted a free-position shot with 9:23 to go and Andra Savage capped the initial burst with her 10th goal of the season with 5:24 left off a dish from Braniecki.

Senior attacker Sarah Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) snapped the run with her second goal of the season with 4:07 remaining in the quarter.

Braniecki opened a 3-0 run with her 11th goal of the year 27 seconds later. Rachel Crane followed 40 seconds later and Savage completed her team’s scoring in the quarter with 1:55 left.

The Dolphins scored twice in the last 67 seconds of the quarter to get within 7-4. Hutchings registered her third goal of the season with 1:07 left and then senior midfielder Reilly Geer (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) scored her first goal of the campaign with 13 seconds left off a dish from sophomore attacker Bella Sampo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill).

Niagara regained its five-goal lead with the first two of the second quarter. Braniecki made it 8-4 53 seconds into the stanza and then she converted a free-position shot with 11:17 remaining.

The Dolphins answered back with back-to-back goals. Junior attacker Raegan McQuade (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) scored in a player-down situation with 8:19 until halftime off a dish from Hutchings, who then converted a free-position shot at the 6:55 mark.
