Syracuse, N.Y. — A 25-year-old man who was fatally shot early Sunday morning in Armory Square in Syracuse has been identified.
The person killed is Ramal Kearse, of Syracuse.
He was shot multiple times outside a bar in the 400 block of South Clinton Street, Capt. James Milana, a spokesperson for Syracuse police, said Monday. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he later died.
Around 12:01 a.m., officers heard gunfire on South Clinton Street while working the Armory Square area, Milana said. They found Kearse shot outside the bar.
Kearse was given CPR before the ambulance arrived, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.
After the shooting, police reported chasing a suspect on Clinton Street, according to dispatches. Police flooded the downtown area with more than a dozen officers and taped off multiple intersections.
Armory Square is a popular bar and restaurant area that’s crowded with people on weekend nights. Syracuse police maintain multiple officers in the area on weekend nights.
