No. 25 Syracuse women’s basketball goes cold in 24-point loss at North Carolina

Syracuse, N.Y. — No. 25 Syracuse lost its Atlantic Coast Conference road opener at North Carolina, 75-51, on Thursday night at Carmichael Arena, and the Orange move to 11-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC.

The loss snapped an eight game win streak for SU. It was the Orange’s first game since breaking into the national polls earlier this week. North Carolina was unranked but received the most votes among those outside the Top 25.

The Orange was led by Dyaisha Fair, who had 17 points shooting 7-for-22 from the field. Freshman Alyssa Latham added 11 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

North Carolina used a 17-2 run over six-and-a-half minutes in the third quarter to open up the game. UNC closed the third on a 6-0 run to hold a 57-36 lead entering the fourth quarter.

The Orange was outscored 25-6 in the third quarter and shot 9-for-36 (25%) from the field in the second half, including 1-for-15 (6.7%) from 3.

Fair led the Orange in scoring for the eighth time this season. Latham had her third-straight double double and sixth of the season. The Orange outrebounded the Tar Heels, 42-41

Syracuse returns home to host Boston College on Sunday at 6 p.m. on ACC Network.
