Luke Voit’s home run power has made people take notice before ― after all, it was only three years ago that Voit led the American League in home runs when the slugger was with the New York Yankees.
Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, Voit got some attention again. And while he did blast a home run for the Syracuse Mets that night, it was his fashion choice that got most of the headlines.
On a humid night in Central New York, the Mets wore their sleeveless jerseys ― and Voit decided to skip the usual T-shirt underneath the vest and go with the “guns out” look.
Voit’s look quickly went viral, with Sports Illustrated, Fox Sports, the New York Post among the media outlets taking notice.
While many on social media took the opportunity to poke a little fun at Voit’s fashion choice, it’s hard to argue with the results; Voit ripped a solo home run off the scoreboard in left field in the eighth inning. It wasn’t enough, though, as the RailRiders beat the Mets 8-3.
It was Voit’s fourth home run in just 14 games with Syracuse this season. Voit, who began the season with the 2023 season with the Milwaukee Brewers before being released last month, was signed by the Mets on June 11.
