One person dead in three vehicle crash in Oneida County, deputies say

Vernon, N.Y. — One person is dead after a three-vehicle crash in the town of Vernon Wednesday, deputies said.

At 4:48 p.m. MaryKay Neville, 60, of Clinton was driving East on Route 5 when she crossed over the center of the roadway and into the westbound lane, according to a news release from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Neville’s vehicle hit a vehicle driven by Viola Ducatte, 77, of Canastota, head-on, deputies said.

Neville’s vehicle then struck a second vehicle driven by Patricia Miles, 63, of Oneida before coming to rest in a ditch, deputies said.

Ducatte’s front seat passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene, deputies said. Miles, Ducatte and Neville were treated at the scene and then taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

It is unknown why Neville veered into the other lane, deputies said.
