Wheatland, N.Y. — An Oswego woman was killed in a crash that also injured two teenagers this weekend on the state Thruway in Monroe County, state police said.
Yolonda F. Heathcote, 39, was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on I-90 shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday when she drifted onto the center median near mile marker 374.9, between exit 47 (LeRoy) and exit 46 (Henrietta) in the town of Wheatland, troopers said in a news release.
Heathcote then overcorrected, drove across both eastbound lanes before exiting the roadway on the south shoulder, troopers said.
The Jeep overturned several times.
Heathcote was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the Jeep, Aden L. Clarkson, 15, and Jamie L. Mandarino, 16, both of Oswego, were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for treatment. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, state police said.
Investigators are not sure why Heathcote drifted onto the center median immediately before crashing, state police said in the release. Her body has been taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed, state police said.
