Police investigate ‘physical altercation’ at Lincoln Middle in Syracuse between parent, teacher

Syracuse, N.Y. — The Syracuse Police Department and Syracuse Central School District are investigating after a “physical altercation” between a staff member and parent.

At 7:37 a.m. Friday, police responded for a report that a parent had punched a teacher in the face multiple times at Lincoln Middle School at 1613 James St., according to dispatches from the Onondaga County 911 Center. The teacher did not request an ambulance, according to dispatches.

Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Police Department, confirmed that there was a “physical altercation” between a teacher and parent. Malinowski would not confirm if the teacher was punched in the face.

Amanda Hull, director of communication for the school district, confirmed there “was an incident” at the school “involving a staff member and an individual who was not authorized to enter the instructional areas of the building.”

Hull would not answer specific questions including if the school went into lockdown, did a parent punch a teacher in the face, how the person got into the instructional area, or if the staff member was hurt.

The district will conduct an independent investigation into the incident, Hull said.
