Rangers uproot pot plants growing in Upstate NY forest

On June 28, a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation forester came across 10 marijuana plants growing in Hill Higher State Forest in Chautauqua County.

The forester notified a forest ranger about his find. The ranger visited the site numerous times over many weeks hoping to locate the person responsible for the plants, but that person never showed up when he was there.

Two rangers uprooted the pot plants last week and destroyed them before they could be harvested. Although marijuana laws have changed in New York, it is still illegal to grow cannabis on state land. This investigation remains open.
