Readers, what’s on your mind for 2024? (Letter from the Editor)

Dear reader,

The month of January always presents a good opportunity to reflect on the previous year and set new goals for the 12 months ahead.  In the newsroom, we always look back at all the important work we accomplished and how we want to build on that moving forward, but we also begin brainstorming about what will be new and different in our local news coverage.

None of what we do would be possible without you: our readers, subscribers and great sources of tips and ideas.  In 2023 we told the story of how overcrowding and long wait times at local emergency rooms were impacting your health; we outlined everything that has happened related to Micron since the October 2022 announcement and how it will impact the community; we marked the 20th anniversary of the SU men’s basketball team’s national championship with an hour-long documentary, and so much more.

As we start to identify the topics that will be most important to Central New York this year, we’d love your input.  What do you want to know about the I-81 project or the plans for Micron in Clay?  Last year marked big changes for SU football and basketball with head coaching changes that will certainly create new storylines throughout this year.  What would you like to see us focus on in local sports and entertainment?  It’s also shaping up to be a big election year, both locally and nationally.  What kind of coverage do you want to see of the local campaigns?

If you have specific story ideas or questions you’d like to see us answer this year, on those topics or any others, please respond with your thoughts, and please include a first name and town/city you’re from to: [email protected].  I will share all of your ideas with our editors for consideration and will highlight some of your comments in next week’s newsletter.

Thanks again for subscribing to syracuse.com and supporting local journalism.
