Rice pilaf is the secret sauce at Kabab Guys in DeWitt (Dining Out Review)

DeWitt, N.Y.— At the base of every entree emerging from the kitchen at DeWitt’s Kabab Guys is a serving of rice pilaf that redefines the rote side dish. The simple blend of rice, vermicelli noodles, stock and cinnamon results in a warming, comforting starch that complements the flavors of whatever is served upon it.

People of a certain age and upbringing remember rice pilaf as the San Francisco treat or as a side dish served at restaurants too fancy to offer French fries. I had the Kabab Guys version for the first time a couple of weeks ago, when we got takeout at my office, and couldn’t get enough of it. The flavor of the rice stuck in my head in a way that I needed to get back there and share it with others, leading to our visit to the little storefront in the Dewitt Town Center on a recent Saturday evening.
