Syracuse is coming off its first loss of the season after falling to No. 7 Tennessee, 73-56 in the opening round of the 2023 Maui Invitational.

The Orange now takes on No. 11 Gonzaga in its second game of the tournament.

Syracuse hung with the much older and physical Volunteers for most of Monday’s game before Tennessee eventually pulled away in the second half.

The Orange were out-rebounded 48-33 against Tennessee and face another challenge in the form of the Bulldogs who have out-rebounded opponents 47.3-31.7 on average this season. Braden Huff and Wyoming transfer Graham Ike lead Gonzaga with 7.0 rebounds per game each. Ike and Huff also lead the Bulldogs in scoring with 16.7 and 16.0 points per game, respectively.

Defense in the post could be the key for Syracuse. The Zags are shooting just 27.4% from 3-point range. Despite such a low percentage from long-range, Gonzaga averages 90.7 points per game thanks to scoring it gets inside the paint.
