Syracuse, N.Y. — The Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in Clinton Square is tonight. The city will light the 42-foot artificial tree that overlooks the outdoor ice skating rink after musical performances and other festivities.
The event will start at 6 p.m. with musical entertainment. The tree lighting will begin around 7 p.m..
The music headliner is indie/pop rock artist Sydney Irving, a Syracuse native who was named the 2020 Young Adult Artist of the Year by the International Signer Songwriters Association. Local band TrumpTight315, who has performed at the tree lighting many times, will follow Irving.
The Clinton Square Ice Rink will open for the season tonight. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also be making an appearance too.
The ceremony will conclude with Mayor Ben Walsh and some special guests flipping the candy cane switch that lights the 40,000 bulbs on the Christmas tree.
Attendees will want to dress warm as light snow and temperatures in the low 30s and upper 20s is expected throughout the night.
