The Syracuse International Film Festival has named the winner of its top award for its 2024 movie festival.
Organizers announced over the weekend that actor, producer and director Dorien Wilson will receive the Sophia Award at this yearโs Syracuse film festival, scheduled for Sept. 20-22 at the Manlius Art Cinema. Wilson will be honored at the theater on Sept. 22 as part of the three-day event.
The Sophia Award, the most prestigious prize from the Syracuse International Film Festival, is a lifetime achievement award recognizing outstanding creative achievement in the world of independent cinema. Past Sophia Award recipients include Alec Baldwin, Daniel Baldwin, Bobcat Goldthwait, Grace Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, Oren Lyons, Ron Perlman, Rob Reiner Jerry Stiller, and American Highโs Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps.
Wilson, 60, is best known for his roles in movies and TV shows like โSister Sister,โ โThe Parkers,โ โDream On,โ โGoode Behavior,โ โLiving Single,โ โFriends,โ โSeinfeld,โ โMartin,โ โA Wesley Christmas,โ and โThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.โ He also produced and directed โThe Troopโ and โThe Steve Harvey Show,โ according to a press release.
He won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor on โThe Parkers,โ while his new movie, โThe 4 Points,โ won best thriller at the 2024 Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival.
