Syracuse football lands first DB commitment in Class of 2024

Syracuse, N.Y. — The Syracuse football team landed its first verbal commitment from a defensive back in its Class of 2024 on Friday from Pennsylvania prospect Clinton Robinson.

Robinson, who posted his commitment on Twitter, is listed as a three-star recruit and the No. 34 player in Pennsylvania by the recruiting website 247 Sports.

The recruiting website lists him as an athlete. Syracuse Orange on Fan Nation reporter Mike McCallister reported that he is expected to play safety at Syracuse.

Robinson is listed by 247 Sports as having offers from West Virginia, as well as programs outside the Power-Five like Temple and Kent State. He has not been rated yet by the other major recruiting websites.

One of Syracuseโ€™s biggest strengths in recent years under Dino Babers has been its ability to identify, attract and develop defensive backs, leading to a flurry of players who were either taken in the NFL Draft or thrived at SU before transferring to blueblood programs.

Syracuse currently has eight known verbal commitments in the Class of 2024, according to 247 Sports.

Seven of the recruits are rated as three-star prospects and one has not been graded. Four of those recruits are ranked among 247 Sportsโ€™ 1000 best recruits, headlined by defensive lineman David McMorris (No. 702).

Robinson plays high school for Keystone Oaks in Pittsburgh, where he plays wide receiver in addition to defensive back.

Prior to Robinsonโ€™s commitment, 247 Sports ranked Syracuse as having the No. 53 recruiting class in the country and No. 12 in the ACC.

Verbal commitments are not binding until an athlete signs a National Letter of Intent.
