Syracuse man charged with manslaughter after man dies more than 100 days after assault, police say

Syracuse, N.Y. — A man was charged with manslaughter Thursday after a man he assaulted died in a hospital from his injuries, police said.

Timothy D. Palms struck John D. Colucci over the head on March 1 at 134 Gertrude St., Syracuse police spokesperson Lt. Matthew Malinowski said in a news release.

Colucci was hit with a golf club, Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said.

Colucci, 62, was found nearly two miles away by police around 4:08 p.m. at 116 Greenland Dr.

Colucci was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment, Malinowski said. On June 27, more than 100 days after the assault, he died at the hospital.

Palms, 48, was identified as a suspect and was arrested at his home Thursday, Malinowski said.

He was charged with first-degree manslaughter and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Palms has been convicted twice on burglary charges, according to state prison records. He served three years in prison for third-degree burglary in 2007 and eight years for second-degree burglary in 2011.

Colucci owned the Johnny C’s restaurant in Baldwinsville, according to his obituary.
